How to Use The Quick 'n' Easy Online Image Resizer Applet

You need a Java-enabled web browser to use this online imaging tool.
(Note: If your web browser asks for permission to run this applet you need to say yes).

You can load JPEG, GIF or PNG images/photos from your computer. (Support for loading more formats, such as TIFF will be added soon. Let Us Know what formats you need to work with and we will make them a priority!)

You can control the tool using the buttons at the bottom of the applet workarea: "Load Image", "Crop", "Undo", "Redo", "Save As PNG" and "Save As JPEG".

To Load an Image/Photo from Your Computer:

Use the "Load Image From File" Button. You can load JPEG, GIF or PNG images/photos. (If the applet asks for permission to access the images/photos on your computer, you need to say yes trust the applet to do this).

To Resize the Image:

Select the bottom right had corner of the image window with your mouse. Then drag the image/photo to required dimensions. The dimensions of the image/photo (width x height) are displayed on the title bar of the image window and on the bottom of the image resizing workarea. Note: If "Constrain Image Aspect Ratio" is selected at the bottom of workarea, the image/photo will always "snap" to a size and shape where the width x height is in proportion to what the width x height was when you either last loaded a new image/photo or last cropped an image/photo.

To Crop the Image:

Use the "Crop" Button. When you press (ie. click and hold) your left mouse button anywhere inside the image/photo, and then drag it a "cropping selection box" will be drawn over the image/photo. You can move this "cropping selection box" around by releasing your mouse button, then pressing (ie. clicking and holding) inside the "cropping selection box". When the "cropping selection box" is in the right place, click the "Crop Image" Button. NEW and IMPROVED: You can now right-click anywhere inside the image to get a context menu that allows you to set the current cropping selection to a specific size or create a new cropping selection of a specific size. This allows you to create mugshot icons or avatars with exactly the dimensions required by online forums and social networking sites such as MySpace.com, Friendster.com, Facebook.com ... etc ... use this list of the icon sizes required by popular social networking websites for avatars to decide what size you need to downsize your avatar icon to! When you crop the image/photo will be replaced by a smaller image/photo showing only the contents of the "cropping selection box". If you change your mind, click anywhere outside the "cropping selection box" to clear it.

To Rotate the Image:

Use the "Rotate" Button. When you click the "Rotate" Button, the image/photo will rotate clockwise 90 degrees (one quarter of a circle).

To Reflect the Image along its Vertical Axis:

Use the "Reflect" Button. When you click the "Reflect" Button, the image/photo will be flipped along its vertical axis.

To Undo a Mistake:

Use the "Undo" Button. When you click the "Undo" Button, the image/photo will revert to the size and shape (width x height) that it was when when you either last loaded a new image/photo, last resized an image/photo before cropping, or last cropped an image/photo.

To Redo After an Undo:

Use the "Redo" Button. When you click the "Redo" Button, the image/photo will revert to the size and shape (width x height) that it was when when you last used the "Undo" Button.

To Convert the Image Into Another Format:

The image is automatically converted into the format you choose when you save image. An image loaded in any of the supported loading formats (JPEG, GIF, PNG) can be saved in any of the supported saving formats (JPEG, PNG). (Support for saving in more formats, such as TIFF and GIF will be added soon. Let Us Know what formats you need to save images as and we will make them a priority!)

To Save the Image to Your Computer:

Click the "Save As PNG" or "Save As JPEG" Button dpending on which image file format (JPEG or PNG) you require. You can save many copies of image with different dimensions - "Image Resizer and Converter" automatically names the file using your original image/photo file name, the resized image/photo dimensions (width x height), the image format extension (jpeg or png). eg. ImageName-100x100.png. Of course you can rename the resized image/photo if you want.

About The Quick 'n' Easy Online Image Resizer Applet

Do you need to quickly and easily shrink pictures for emailing or for uploading to ebay, facebook, myspace or online forums? Don't waste time installing expensive desktop software. With our Image Resizer and Converter, you can load JPEG, GIF and PNG images from your computer and resize (shrink or enlarge) them, then crop them, and save them to you computer in JPEG or PNG format. (Support for more picture formats, such as TIFF will be added soon).

Our quick and easy online image/photo resizing application allows you to quickly:

  • enlarge then crop an image/photo to select only your face (for use as an avatar on an online forum).
  • shrink an image/photo for display on a photo-sharing or image-hosting website
  • shrink an image/photo for use as an avatar on a online discussion forum
  • shrink an image/photo for sending as an email attachment
  • convert an image file format for display on a photo-sharing or image-hosting website
  • convert an image file format for display on your own web album or gallery

A smaller image is very often better because:

  • some email servers will not accept large attachments, particulary pictures.
  • large pictures will not fit in the body of an html email.
  • sending large images/photos over the internet uses more bandwidth, and bandwidth costs money.

You may need to convert image formats because:

  • photo-sharing websites often only accept certain formats, usually JPEG.
  • not all web-browser recognize uncommon image formats, but almost all recognize JPEG, GIF and PNG.
  • some image formats allow greater compression and so a smaller file size, particularly JPEG.

A web-browser based tool is quick and easy because:

  • there is nothing extra to download and install.
  • there is nothing to uninstall if you no longer need it.
  • bug fixes, updates and improvements get loaded instantly.
  • on Microsoft Windows, no changes are made to the Registry.
  • when you are on the web, you can do simple imaging jobs without leaving your web browser.
  • desktop image ediing software can be complicated and expensive.
  • best of all ... our online imaging tools are FREE!
